Open Culture

I have to say this, wow, wow, wow! Aside from the classic books there’s the classic narrators that make this collection of audio books extra special, names such as Orson Welles, Sir John Gieguld, Thomas Hardy, Sir Laurence Olivier, David Niven, Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs, and others are among the readers. I could spend the next twenty years going through their collection. There’s great women authors in there, Jane Austen, Emily Dickenson, Charlotte Bronte and others but not many female narrators.

Download hundreds of free audio books, mostly classics, to your MP3 player or computer. Below, you'll find great works of fiction, poetry and non fiction, by such authors as Twain, Tolstoy, Hemingway, Orwell, Vonnegut, Nietzsche, Austen, Shakespeare, Asimov, HG Wells & others.

What a great resource.

Audible is an Amazon company. They offer one free book during their 30 day free trial after which you are charged. $16.45 month. If you cancel before the end of the trial period you will not be charged.

Of course it’s a pretty impressive online bookshop with all the latest best sellers.
